1. Pale bases

The pale skin tone is made by Seraphine of Simsylvania. You can find matching pale skins at Simsylvania, Nighttime Sims, FrillySims and other sites.
To make sure all pale sims match I suggest you use the original pale bases made by Seraphine. Get them here. I’ve made some matching hands that are included in the zip. And two head bases; a male and a female C001 head. Get them here or make your own to match the pale body bases.
The actual making of the head and skin is not different from regular skins. You can see my head and skin tutorials for inspiration.
The tricky part about pale skins is naming them and assigning matching hands, nude, formal, swim and night wear. Pale heads are easy; you don’t have to assign anything.

2. Naming the pale skins

The Sims only operates with 3 skintones; light, medium and dark. To make the pale skins show up in the game you have to ‘cheat’ the game – you make it belive that it’s a light toned skin.
That way your pale heads and skins will show up in the light skin tone menu in the ‘make a family’ screen.
You name your skin after the mesh you want to use and add the ‘lgt’ for light skin tone. The name of the skin can be anything you want – when we make pale skins for AmazonSims we add a ‘P’ to the name. That way we can tell it from a real light toned skin.

Here are some examples of how to name pale skins:
Body: B200fafitlgt_desdDressP.bmp
Head: C702falgt_desdIrisP.bmp
They are named just like you would name a light toned skin (I just added the ‘P’, but you don’t have to do that if you don’t want to – the skin will work fine anyway)

However, this means that the game will automatically assign light toned hands, nude, formal, swim and night wear, and that looks pretty silly. To avoid this, you have to make costum hands, nude and so on in the pale skin tone.

3. Assigning hands

You have to make hands for all pale body skins (except for the buyable wear – the game will use the hands of the normal wear when your sim changes into any kind of buyable wear).
Use the hand bitmaps that come with the pale bases. Name them after your body skin – be sure to avoid typing errors or your hands won’t work.
There are different ways of assigning hands. First of all you need all three different hand bitmaps – they are open (normal) hands [HUAOlgt in the zip], closed hands [HUAClgt in the zip] and pointing hands [HUAPlgt in the zip]. You can either use the same texture for both left and right hand or do one for the left and one for the right (in that case you will need to copy the hand bitmaps so you end up with 6 hand bitmaps).

Here’s how to name them:

Female hands with same texture on left and right:
HFAOlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandFemaleAllOpenLight)
HFAClgt_skinname.bmp (=HandFemaleAllClosedLight)
HFAPlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandFemaleAllPointingLight
)
Female hands with different texture on left and right:
HFLOlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandFemaleLeftOpenLight)
HFROlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandFemaleRightOpenLight)
HFLClgt_skinname.bmp (=HandFemaleLeftClosedLight)
HFRClgt_skinname.bmp (=HandFemaleRightClosedLight)
HFLPlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandFemaleLeftPointingLight)
HFRPlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandFemaleLeftPointingLight)

Male hands with same texture on left and right:
HMAOlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandMaleAllOpenLight)
HMAClgt_skinname.bmp (=HandMaleAllClosedLight)
HMAPlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandMaleAllPointingLight)

Male hands with different texture on left and right:
HMLOlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandMaleLeftOpenLight)
HMROlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandMaleRightOpenLight)
HMLClgt_skinname.bmp (=HandMaleLeftClosedLight)
HMRClgt_skinname.bmp (=HandMaleRightClosedLight)
HMLPlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandMaleLeftPointingLight)
HMRPlgt_skinname.bmp (=HandMaleLeftPointingLight)

4. Assigning nude:

You have to make a nude for all pale body skins (except for the buyable wear – the game will use the nude of the normal wear when your sim changes into any kind of buyable wear).
Use the nude bitmaps that come with the pale bases. Notice that there are different bases for male and female as well as for the diffent body types. NFFitlgt is NudeFemaleFitLight and NMFitlgt is NudeMaleFitLight.
Name them after your body skin – be sure to avoid typing errors or your nude skin won’t work.

Example:
Nude for a female fit pale skin:

You can add tattoos and such to the nude skin or just leave it as it is.

5. Night, swim and formal wear:

Making night, swim and formal wear is different depending on what Expansion packs you’ve got installed.
If you’re making the skin for The Sims (and Living Large and House Party – what is called ‘pre-Hot Date Sims’) without the expansion packs that comes with buyable wear, you have to make a skin set (see tutorial).
If you’re making the skin for Hot Date, Vacation (and Unleashed I believe) and your sims can buy night, swim and formal wear, you have to make buyable skins (see tutorial).
These two methods are completely different, and you won’t be able to use a skin set with Hot Date or buyable wear with pre-Hot Date Sims. In fact, installing a skin set into Hot Date or Vacation can make your game crash. So be sure to choose the right method.
Making a pale skin with just hands and nude assigned will make the skin work with both The Sims and Hot Date, but night, swim and formal wear will be light toned in The Sims.
We do all three things at Amazonsims:

6. Testing:

Testing your skin is a very important part of making a pale skin. It’s so easy to make a typing error without noticing, so do check if everything works in your game before uploading the skin to a website.
You need to test the hands and nude, and night swim and formal wear if you’ve done a skin set.
The nude can be tested by making your sim take a shower/bath.

7. Credit:

You’ve now completed your first pale skin 🙂 The skin will match perfectly with other pale skins and heads.
Remember to put a link to Simsylvania somewhere in your pale section (e.g. ‘get more pale skins and heads at Simsylvania) as a credit to Seraphine for making these cool bases.
You can link to other sites with pale sims as well, but it’s up to you.

Enclose a read-me text in the download. You don’t need to give any credit for the bases in the read-me, but remember to write if the skin works with Hot Date or not.
